Take A Seat Please

Do you love IKEA as much as I do? I think it is a great place to find snazzy furniture at a decent price. Now Parisians can find IKEA furniture right in several subway stations around the city. It is definitely a fabulous advertising idea.  I like the idea of luxuriating on a big comfy couch while waiting for a train. If you are in Paris be sure to check out the installations. They are available until March 24, 2010. Check out some other public art installations that will surely allow you to "pop a squat" and "take a load off" : Artist Hongtao Zhou created this very cool place to sit on the shores of Lake Mendota, Wisconsin. This public art piece entitled Mountain Camp was created for the Canadian town of Banff by artist Susan Detwiler. The installation includes a pair of moccasins, an old coffee-pot, a cowboy hat, and saddlebag around a bronze campfire. This is my favorite of the installations. I love reading outside and this would be a fine place to sit back and relax with a good book and enjoy the weather. Designed by artist Lisette Spee in collaboration with architect Tim Van Den Burg, these "lawnge chairs" are part of a series of work created for outdoor areas in Valkenberg Park in Breda, Netherlands.

This year I've team up with ReadyMade Magazine and SXSW to bring you these adsurd Junkprints Birkenstocks. So if your in Austin, be sure to swing by Beaty Bar @ Palm Door, 401 Sabine St. at East 4th Ave, Austin, TX and take a look, they look even cooler person. They are hand drawn and  made from upcylcled materials...and the platform is made of push filling making the shoes impossible to walk in 😉 They are being auctioned for charity. Bids starting at $200...get those check books ready!

Styrofoam Cups

Do you remember that period of time when Lil Wayne used to walk around with a Styrofoam cup of who-knows-what? His cups were just so awfully plain. Wouldn't it have been cooler if his cups looked like these: All of the cups were drawn by Boey.

The “Props Rock” Series: Keith Haring

This is the first entry of our new “Prop Rocks” series. The “Prop Rocks” series does exactly what it implies; it gives props to artists that rock. In this series I will feature artists with a truly unique vision and individual style. I wanted to start this new series by celebrating the work of artist Keith Haring. Today is the anniversary of the proclaimed artist’s death. Haring is remembered for creating work that expresses concepts of birth, death, love, sex and war by utilizing colorful graphics with sharp, defined lines. His work can be found in galleries all over the world and in collaborations with other artists and designers.

In 1988 Keith Haring was diagnosed with AIDS; and in 1989 he established the Keith Haring Foundation which provided funding and imagery to AIDS organizations and children’s programs.  Sadly, Keith Haring died of AIDS related complications at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990.

LOVE that Jeffrey Deitch is MOCA’s new director

But I don't love that he has to close up Deitch Projects and stop dealing in the commercial world...I'm also not so much of a fan of having Shepard Fairy do the closing show...Come on Jeff (you don't mind if I call you Jeff do you?) You are responsible for introducing the world to Jeff Koons, and Kehinde Wiley, Hey you even represent Keith Haring...and your last big who-ha is a solo show for Fairy? I'm just saying. Well congrats on your MOCA position and I'm very excited about the new perspective you'll bring!
